Ready for the 2G/3G Shutdown?

South Africa is phasing out 2G and 3G cellular networks with a complete shutdown planned by December 2027. This change has important implications for your home security systems and vehicle tracking devices.

 What You Need to Know:

  • Older Devices at Risk: Many tracking and alarm systems still rely on 2G/3G. As these networks are decommissioned, such devices may stop working —  often without warning.
  • Security and Insurance Impact: Malfunctioning systems can increase vulnerability to theft and may affect insurance cover. Insurers require that these systems be operational where it is a condition of cover on your policy
  • Device  Check-Up Recommended: Contact your service provider to:
  • Confirm which network your device uses.
  •
  • Check if an upgrade is needed.
  •
  • Test your system regularly for proper functionality.
  •
  • Ensure your contact details are up to date with your service providers to receive important updates.
  • Install Future-Proof Solutions: If installing a new system, ensure it supports 4G, 5G, RF or other future-ready networks.
  • Act Now: The network shutdown is already underway. Don’t wait until 2028 –  take action to protect your property and ensure insurance compliance.

We strongly recommend that you connect with your service or tracking provider to understand and confirm your system setup.
